FLOOD WARNINGS

Even though we haven't been getting a lot of rain recently, when it does come down... several local low level crossings flood very quickly. Long time locals have noticed flooding occurs within hours where it used to be days. One theory is, the densities of developments and increase of hard surfaces have concentrated water run offs, where previously the same amount of rain would largely soak away into the ground and feed the water table. Caution must be taken at every crossing. New residents to the area must be aware, forging water over 100mm or 4inches deep can cause vehicles to stall and be swept away, as was the case in the Birds Road Crossing 2005 when two young lives were lost.
