Birds Road Crossing

New residents to the area are well advised to take great caution crossing causeways such as the Birds Road causeway even when partially covered by water. Prompted by the recent avoidable double tragedy on this causeway, this Association turned to the Media to highlight the urgent assistance needed from GCCC to have the markers and depth indicators upgraded. Several months after the deaths, depth indicators, reflectors and edge markers were repaired and reinstalled. Debate still continues as to whether rigid steel railing may have saved the young couple's lives by stopping the vehicle being swept down stream and allowing rescue crews time to respond.
